Crocheters Give Back

As crocheters, we love crocheting gifts for friends and family. There’s also a growing trend of crocheters giving back, by creating hats, scarves, blankets, baby clothing and more… for a wide range of charities.

If you know of a worthy crochet cause, please let us know by posting a note in the comments section below.

Here is a growing list of organizations who can benefit from your crochet efforts. Please note: Be sure to read the specifics as far as exact products, proportions and materials used being requested.

First up is Warm Up America

In response to my email they wrote: “We would love for you to post our current needs: We need all size knit or crocheted blankets, hats, scarves, mittens, shawl and 7″x9″ sections!”

The Warm Up America! foundation, a 501C3 nonprofit, was founded in 1991 by Evie Rosen. It is committed to motivating, training and coordinating volunteers to knit and crochet afghans and clothing for people in need. To this end, the foundation: Promotes, trains and encourages individual volunteers and groups to adopt the WUA! program as a local activity.

WUA! supports and assists these local volunteers by providing information and instructional materials through its website and newsletters. The organization acts as a collection point for sections, oversees assembly into completed blankets and ships items to various charitable organizations and agencies for distribution to the homeless and persons in need.

Next Up is Crochet Cancer Challenge

The 2024 Crochet Cancer Challenge encourages crocheters to create and donate hats for cancer patients. This initiative highlights the power of handmade items in providing comfort and support to those facing difficult times. This event has had such success that it is a highlight every year for so many fellow crocheters.

Each day, throughout the month of October, the challenge travels to a new blog and features a new crochet pattern. You can access the patterns for free by simply committing to crochet something for the Crochet Cancer Challenge, and sending your contribution to an appropriate agency. This event is hosted by Christine Naugle of Sweet Potato 3

Let’s focus on these two agencies for now… we’ll be adding additional information to this page, over time. If you know of a worthy cause that crocheters can create for… post a comment with details below. Each comment will be checked and verified so please post appropriately. Thank you! Together let’s help more people, through our love of crochet.
