Website Tools for Crochet Blogs

Having a crochet blog is like having your own, online community center. It’s a place for you to share ideas, patterns, and information. It’s can also serve as a community bulletin board, where you share news about the crochet world, tips for how to be more productive, and recommendations for resources that can help other crocheters.

Having an attractive online home to invite visitors too is important, if you want people to visit and you’d like them to come back again and again.

When building this blog, I searched for a theme and tools that could help me maximize the effectiveness of my site. In the following section you’ll find some of my favorite resources. These are resources I use and love and can highly recommend. I only recommend resources that I can fully endorse and ones that offer exceptional customer support. Have fun exploring. I hope you find these to be helpful.

Step 1: Purchase your online street address; your domain name.

Before you build your blog, you need to have a “street address” online. This is called your “domain name.” You may already have a domain that you’ll build your blog on, or perhaps you’ll purchase a new one. You can purchase from most web hosts or you can purchase your domain names on reputable sites such as GoDaddy. I’ve used GoDaddy for my domain names for close to 20 years. I love them, the ease of use of their site, and their exceptional customer support.

Check out GoDaddy for your Domain Name needs.

Step 2: Carefully choose your web host.

Your web host rents you the virtual land that you build your blog on. It’s essential that you choose a company that is responsive, available pretty much 24/7, and one that offers tight Internet security. To avoid being hacked, make sure you have tight security for your site.

The company I’ve used for years and can highly recommend is WPEngine. They focus exclusively on WordPress sites, offer exceptional support, backup your site daily, have tight security, and they provide you with premium, Genesis WordPress Themes.

Check out WP Engine for your web hosting needs.

Step 3: Dress your virtual building by using an attractive WordPress Theme

Your blog’s theme is what gives it personality and design. It provides the layout and sections of your site and provides you with a place to add content. There are many reputable WordPress theme companies, however, make sure you do your due diligence.

As mentioned in the web host step above, WPEngine provides you with a collection of high quality themes using the Genesis platform. These themes are gorgeous and easy to work with. I’ve used Genesis themes personally, for over 15 years. (I still use them on my author website.)

Restored316 WordPress Themes are my favorite themes to use for my crochet blog. They are beyond gorgeous, easy to use, multi-functional, and the company offers exceptional support and community involvement. They make you feel like “part of the family.

This very site you are on is built using the “Darling” Restored 316 Theme.

Check out their collection of extraordinarily beautiful WordPress themes.
